Ronald McDonald House - Walk In My Shoes

When the Ronald McDonald House 120 room facility in Westmead was under construction in 2017, Cook’s was there donating plumbing supplies required for major works. Every year since, Cook’s has sponsored rooms within the facility, providing support to many families during such a difficult time.

When the callout was made for involvement in their annual 'Walk In My Shoes' campaign to be held in March, we were of course keen to jump on board with it.

The target was $5k. A huge THANYOU to all who got behind Jarrod's efforts the total raised was $12,150! Here's a note from Jarrod about his 24 hour experience at Ronald McDonald House Charities Greater Western Sydney......

"Being involved in the Walk In My Shoes campaign seemed like such a natural progression for our longstanding relationship with RMHC. What the relationship didn’t prepare me for was just how incredible and fulfilling the 24-hours in the house would be. Firstly, getting an intimate feel for the level of sophistication and professionalism that the staff at the house put into each and every day is something to behold. These people - be they full-time staff or volunteer - live and breathe RMHC. The efforts that go into ensuring the house runs as well as it does is truly a credit to them all. To be able to get involved in this way was extremely fulfilling.

Secondly, the families and children themselves. What will stick with me forever is the gratitude that the families have for those who are helping them in - quite often - the worst circumstance any of us could imagine. Their positivity and brightness creates an environment in the house which is difficult to describe. The children pull so much strength from those around them, so this positivity is an essential part of what the house has created for the families. To play even a tiny part in giving them something to enjoy or look forward to was truly a life changing experience.

Above all else I couldn’t recommend more highly that people get involved in any way possible in support of RMHC. Be it in an experience similar to this, perhaps volunteering, or simply by donating. Any help to the cause is incredibly worthwhile and the appreciation from those that it directly impacts is immeasurable. A special thanks must go to Sam and Matt at RMHC for their ability to create an experience that was equally rewarding as it was respectful to all that was going on around us. The impact will stay with me for a long time."
